GUST Sports Matches November 24-26
Tuesday 24th November
GUST 2 vs ACM 1
GUST fought their way into the final four where a place in the Semi-Final waits with a solid win against ACM on Tuesday evening.
In a match of missed chances for both teams, GUST’s goal keeper Barrak Al Yaqout shined brightly, making save after outstanding save against an inspired ACM team desperate to get their second win of the season after 3 match losing streak.
It was GUST who held their nerve to score the first goal of the match when Faisal Al Mnayea scored and excellent goal direct from the corner. Several close chances followed at either end before a spectacular team goal that was finally potted home by a cracking volley by Jassim Al Attar.
ACM scored a late goal to give them a chance of a draw but GUST dominated the final passages of play to secure the win.
The game against rivals AUM on Monday (30th Nov 7pm at AUM) will decide who enters the semi-finals in the top spot after the round robin.

Thursday 26th November
GUST 43 vs AUM 15
The GUST Girls showed their opposition how to play ball on Thursday evening with a total annihilation of AUM.
Captain Samira Kashlan felt ill enough to almost pull out of the match just minutes before tip off but she must have felt a lot better as GUST dominated the entire court in the early stages as they slotted home basket after basket throughout the first half to lead 21-3 at the break.
3 point maestro Dana Yousef shook off an injury from the previous match to lead the way from the 3 point line. While Hiba Al Qaed was a dominant force in the mid court as GUST completely shut the door on an AUM side that struggled to gain any momentum during the match.
The win guaranteed the Women’s basketball team a semi-final birth and it would be great to see a Gymnasium full of GUST supporters to give them the support they need to help them reach the final!

GUST 49 vs AUM 57
Nobody gave the GUST Men’s Basketballers a chance of beating the league leaders AUM on Thursday night, but the GUST men were having none of this talk and instead were the ones taking it to AUM early in the first half. At the break, they had their noses in front and were leading 23-20 due to some outstanding team-work and excellent defense.
The GUST men played with the pride, passion and belief that is required to overcome adversity and with only 7 players available for the match, they had a lot to overcome to be competitive. Their resolve at both ends of the court saw them enter the fourth quarter with the lead, but with the game poised for a huge upset.
GUST’s brave effort came unstuck in the fourth quarter when GUSTs foul count finally caught up with them and AUM were able to drive home their numbers advantage by simply by utilizing their reserves. The end came when GUST’s standout captain Ali Al Ansari was fouled out of the match and their slender 1-point advantage going into the final quarter fell. AUM pushed on and in the end managed to walk away with a hard fought 8-point victory at the final whistle.

Men’s Football GUST 2 vs AUM 1. Monday 30th November.
Last night GUST pulled off a well deserved and hard fought victory against rivals AUM in a clash that determined who would be the league leaders moving into the semi-finals.
It was great to see the entire team pull together their best performance of the tournament to date to take the match 2-1. GUST’s hero for the match was goal keeper Faisal Al Hulail who made several stunning match winning saves, with outstanding contributions from goal scorers Ali Al Bassam and Faisal Al Mnayea, as well as from tireless midfielders Abdulaziz Al Mutairi and Ali Al Ali.
Their semi-final will be held on the 7th of December at AUM with the opposition still to be decided.
